Dear reader, fear not, the photos of Spirit Cove Lodge do not even begin to do justice to this Bed and Breakfast. And I agree with all the reviews (except for the comments about flies hindering hiking as this was not a problem for us and it isn’t appropriate for families with young children). As I said to the owner, I believe this is the nicest Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed at. The rooms are beautiful as is the entire building and the grounds are picture perfect. Being so close to the bike trail is wonderful. All you need to do is drive down the driveway back to the highway, cross over and there is the trail. If I should be back this way in the future, I would stay here without a second thought and I encourage anyone coming to this area (Long Prairie, Browerville, Alexandria etc.) to stay here. You will not be disappointed. And to repeat what has been said by nearly every other comment, the breakfast is wonderful and imaginative....read less

Craig and Janet are consummate hosts: they gave us privacy all hours of the day but responded instantly to requests. They provided a fun, unique breakfast every day...including the two extra unplanned days we were snowed in. They provided snowshoes, gratis, to explore the grounds. And when it was finally safe to leave Craig brushed the snow off my car.

At the end of our ride each day we relaxed at the beautiful, peaceful and tranquil property of Spirit Cove and even walked on some of their groomed trails that led to ponds and other beautiful areas. The breakfasts are amazing and there are so many comfy nooks in the lodge and outside of the lodge for peaceful reflection or socializing. It's a short drive to Carlos Creek Winery/22 Northmen Brewing or in to town to do some shopping. The grounds of the lodge are beautiful and it is so quiet and peaceful. We felt completely comfortable staying here in the midst of Covid-19. Every precaution was taken and Craig and Janet adjusted how they did breakfast and both wore masks and practiced social distancing while still visiting and being friendly. We will be back. There are trees and trails. We had difficulty going for hikes due to the flies but we stayed in the corner "turkey" room and had a patio where we sat outside often and enjoyed the scenery. The breakfasts were SO good and filling. We were the only people who ate breakfast (two other guests were staying there and left earlier). The lodge is nicely decorated. The room was very clean and quiet. Loved having a walkout patio!
Plenty of board games, porch swings and rocking chairs!
Breakfast was a delight! Homemade French toast crowns, fresh fruit, sausage and hot coffee! Yes, please!

The room was comfortable and very nicely outfitted and arranged for a couple; having the additional option of relaxing in the great room upstairs, or outside on any of the various decks and porches, made it even more perfect. Breakfasts were awesome. Use of a guest refrigerator was another highly appreciated feature, as we like to travel with a chest cooler for snacks and drinks. The Central Lakes Trail is a half-mile ride away, and a garage was available for storing our bicycles overnight. In between bike rides, we enjoyed watching deer wander about the property, and seeing and hearing a wide variety of birds....read less
